Both Shinichi Suzuki’s Allegretto and Kersting Wartberg’s arrangement of Allegretto, The Bear Family, are still protected by copyright. This means that it is not legal to use these works without the proper authorization from the copyright holder.
It is important to note that, as is usual in the Suzuki repertoire, it is possible to play Allegretto by ear and from memory, as long as the copyright is respected.
Allegretto is an original violin composition written by Shinichi Suzuki especially for Suzuki Book One. This piece, like Allegro, is named after a musical tempo.
In the case of Allegretto, it is written in the key of D major, with a meter of alla breve (2/2) and a tempo of Allegretto.
In the Suzuki Cello School Book 1, Allegretto is number 11. This piece continues to develop the student’s technique on the G and C strings, while also emphasizing alternate bowing, with a special focus on the third note of each pattern, which is the strong beat, as there is a pickup of two eighth notes.
This contrasts with the next piece, ‘Andantino’.
It is important to note that, although the form of this piece is identical to ‘Long, Long Ago’, it also includes the circle of bowing, which makes it more interesting and challenging for the student.
As students progress in their training, pieces become more complex and require more technique and skill for their interpretation.
In summary, Allegretto is a fundamental piece in the Suzuki repertoire and an important step in the student’s technical development.
