Dona Nobis Pacem – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart This well-known song is a canon, attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) but also by some to Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. It is a work used as a song of peace, very easy to learn, and which is also very useful for those singers who have just entered the world of choral singing.
It consists of 3 short musical phrases with a unique text: ‘dona nobis pacem’, which are repeated by combining and alternating the voices or each phrase assigned to a voice, and sung individually or concurrently. ‘Dona nobis pacem’ (give us peace) is the final response of the paragraph beginning ‘Agnus Dei,…’ (lamb of God) in the mass.
